Trophy Field Care

Trophy Field Care

If you are planning a hunt, or just hope to get that big buck that you’ve been spotting all year, please keep the following tips in mind:

  • Hides are perishable. It is important to transport your hide to us as soon as possible. If this is not possible, place hide in the freezer until you can transport it.
  • You may also salt your hide if freezing is not available. Keep in mind that salting should only be done after all the meat and fat have been removed from the skin, and the ears and the face (eyes, lips, nose, etc.) have been turned.
  • Never salt specimens when freezing. Salting prohibits the skin from freezing solid.
  • Hides can be shipped directly to your taxidermist from the hunt. See Shipping instructions.
  • When tagging the specimen’s ear, make a small puncture and fasten the tag with a safety pin.
  • Leave the specimen whole.  No field dressing necessary
